Grind
It would be easy to sulk.
To be that close to winning the Moonstone Match -on the Moon- and to let it slip through my fingers at New Ground, that could be gutting.
It would be easy to rest on my laurels.
To be happy that I took a game competitor like Max to the limit on what amounted to his turf, and almost walk away victorious.
It would be easy to be shady.
To look at this coming tag match as a chance to screw my partner as a receipt, either by laying him out or walking out.
But that’s not how I’m wired.
I’m not a mope. I’m not complacent. And even if it seems like I’m in over my head here in Wrestleverse, I ain’t desperate.
What I am, Chase and Tommy, is a grinder.
You guys are in the same spot I’m in right now, right? Coming off a big loss in Chicago, looking for that chance to turn things around.
Looking to make headway in a promotion that’s getting more crazy and stacked every week.
Looking to stand out amongst the robots and cyborgs and kangaroos when you’re just two kids who got the itch to wrestle and the talent to get this far.
You got that extra motivation too to want to win as a team, since beating us is a step towards that Parallel Championship, while the only tangible reward me and Max Moonstone would get picking up the deuce is a little something extra in our paychecks.
Is that enough motivation for me? Yeah. But Eternal #3 is more than that.
This coming match is another chance to test myself. To get acclimated in the Double You Vee against quality opponents.
So I’m going to do the work.
The reps in the gym, the time in the watching film, the sparring in the ring- the grind you got to do to prepare for those minutes in a real frigging fight where it all pays off, and if you keep your head on straight you learn something you can use in the future.
What are you two going to learn Friday?
Well, Tommy, Chase- that depends on you.
Because I can tell you me and Max are coming for your necks. We’re there to win. Yeah, you’re the only real team in this match. You’re operating in your comfort zone. But that familiarity isn’t going to be enough against a wiley vet like Moonstone and the biggest, strongest man in the Wrestleverse in myself.
Knowing each other won’t stop us.
What will? Training? Research? Blind stinking luck?
That’ll help, yeah, but you’ll need more than that Eternal #3 if you want your hands raised.
You’re going to have to dig deep, grind it out, and figure a way to beat two wrestlers that on paper outclass you.
You got that grit in you to do that?
Guess we’ll all find out Friday.
