Treading Water in the Deep End
I've done better than most here in Wrestleverse. Technically.
Scope out the roster. Check out who has who has come and gone. Open up an Excel spreadsheet, punch in the number of wins and my name is up near the top.
Granted, it's a small sample size, but for me it's my whole pro career.
I started in the Double You Vee admitting that this was a company well outside my normal boundaries. I'm a day laborer turned prize fighter competing alongside established vets. There's nothing fancy about me in or out of the ring. I ain't a cyborg or a man in black or a swamp monster or whatever. And still as things go in Wrestleverse I've managed to do.... above average.
That's not enough though.
I didn't come all this way to own a record that just looks good on paper. Stats don't mean shit if at the end of the day you haven't earned the achievements that go with them.
Achievements like title wins and choice spots at Premimum Live Events.
Doesn't look like I got a chance at the former anytime soon. The championship matches for Fatal are set. My two tag partners will be competing for the Eternal and Parallel Championships. Their tickets are punched. This match at Eternal #5 at Lake Michigan is a tune up for them.
For me, it's one last chance to fight my way onto the card. Something significant. Maybe even a second chance at the Moonstone Max used to become Wrestleverse Champion.
Those are the stakes. I got more on the line than just pride or momentum like Bonnie or Murder do.
And I'm not trying to imply that either one of them are going to dog it just because their Fatal plans are finalized. I've seen both of them work, in Murder's case I shared a ring with him. I know they're going to bring it on Friday, just like me. Just like I always do.
The question is what do our opponents bring?
On paper, the "Three DUDES" seem like a threat. They are a real tag team. They got experience. On paper, they are committed to the team work Derryberry, Ninja, and I lack.
But as I said, and proved, with Max when we faced Tommy Gunn and Chase Andrews, familiarity only takes you so far. You got to have the talent and drive to do what it takes to make it to the winner's circle.
I know I got that. Showed it a second time at Eternal Four when me, Ninja, and Cruze beat the current Parallel Champs the Wild Things and Kelly Penkzee-Nelson.
Going to be a case of "Third Time's the Charm" at Eternal Five.
We're going to take it to the "DUDES". We're going to beat them. And we'll all move on to something better and bigger come Fatal.
