“Alright guys and gals and non-binary pals, welcome to the WrestleChicks podcast! It’s me, Ruby Testaverde, ready for another episode reviewing the biggest moments of the week in the world of women’s wrestling! A lot to get to but we’re gonna start with an interview with one of the hottest names in the sport right now. Amelia ‘Wildheart’ Winston, how are you?”
“Livin’ the dream, Ruby Tuesday.”
We open in a small studio, two women sitting at a table, microphones in front of both, headphones on. Ruby Testaverde, a 50-something woman, built like an athlete a little past her prime and the aforementioned Amelia.
“So, everyone’s been talking about WrestleVerse and since you’re the first member of the roster we’ve had on the show I have to ask… what the hell is up with these venues?!”
Both women are laughing even as Ruby continues.
“Siesta Beach, I get it, beautiful spot but not exactly a big stadium venue. And next it’s a Pizza Hut & Taco Bell in Virginia? You gotta explain this logic to me, sis.”
“Yo, I got no idea. It’s not like Danny Powers can’t afford to make these shows happen wherever he wants. Trust me, the money he’s paying me and I assume everyone else on the roster, he could afford to run these shows damn near anywhere. Maybe dude just likes his stuffed crust and chalupas that bad? Whatever. End of the day, I don’t care where, as long as I got a fight lined up I’m there. Taco Bell, the beach, bar mitzvah, quinceanera, county fair, heck, county dump. Just set up the ring and let me do my thing.”
“Alright, that’s fair. So Eternal #1, battle royal, you lasted til the final five. Let’s start with the men who made it to the final three. Wolfslair. They went in united and Aiden Reynolds walked out with the belt. Do you regret not teaming up with anyone else in the match?”[/font]
A brief pause as Amelia seems to think over her words.
“No. End of the day, no. Listen, those guys, they’ve got history. I don’t know all the details, but they’re a unit. I didn’t know a damn person in that match. I met Amber and Kyle that day, I still haven’t had a conversation with half the roster at least. I had no reason to trust anyone to not toss me out the second my back was to them. They got the job done. Hats off to Aiden Reynolds, he won it fair and square.”
“Hats off, simple as that?”
“Hey, I’m not gonna blame him for winning, that’s the job. Doesn’t mean I don’t want that belt because I do. Doesn’t mean I’m not gonna bring a goddamn massacre down when I finally get another chance at that belt, whether it’s him holding it or anyone else, but I’m not gonna hate the man for winning. That’s just petty.”
“Even though he called you weird?”
“Bitch, I am weird!”
Both women are laughing again as Amelia continues.
“Seriously, you ever met a pro wrestler who isn’t weird? You have to be to watch what other wrestlers do and go ‘Oh that’s a good idea, I should do that for a living!’ If we weren’t weird we’d all be accountants or something. We’re all nuts, I just can’t be bothered trying to hide it. I’ve been called a lot of insulting things since I started my career, since before then too. Weird doesn’t make the list.”
“Alright, another big thing from that match with you, a certain tactic you used on April Lee…”
“Pocket sand?”
“Yup.”
Amelia cringes a little while Ruby smirks.
“Alright, listen… I’m not proud of it but in the moment it was necessary. Battle royals are no DQ, I needed an out against a bigger opponent, I took advantage of a situation. No one would’ve thought twice if I hit her with a chair, right?”
“So any ideas for unique situational weapons on the 12th?”
“Shit… marinara in the eyes? Burrito slap? We’ll just have to wait and see.”
“So let’s focus on that match. The Eternal Championship, you versus Lachlan Kane, aka the human eggplant emoji-”
“Unless he plans to use that as a weapon I ain’t worrying about it.”
“CruZe, the man with the bionic legs-”
“Those I do actually have to take seriously.”
“And Kyle Williams, the heavy-hitting half-pint-”
“To be fair, the same height as me.”
“He looked a little taller at Eternal #1.”
“Yeah, but I was barefoot when we met.”
“Fair enough. So how do you prepare for this? A street fight, a new title on the line, three very different opponents. What’s your thought process?”
A brief moment of silence, Amelia pondering it for a second or two.
“Violence. There’s a lot of specific things, keeping a mind on being close enough to break up a pin if I need to, making sure I do my best not to let someone get me from behind, being prepared if the rest of Wolfslair sticks their noses in-”
“You think they will?”
“I think they might, I think it’s a variable I have to plan for. Street fights are messy, aggressive and dangerous. Multiple person matches are both of those things and when you combine them? That shit doesn’t just multiply, it compounds. So yeah, I can plan and think about all the things that can happen but end of the day? Violence is what this comes down to. I need to be prepared to do more violence, I need to be prepared to take more violence and keep going, and I need to just grit my teeth, fight through it and get the damn job done. I didn’t at Eternal #1. I need to at Eternal #2. Two title shots in my first two shows, those are the kinds of opportunities you just don’t normally get. I can’t let myself fail this time too.”
“But surely your opponents have to be thinking the same kinda way about this chance too.”
“Yeah, probably. Guess what? Fuck ‘em.”
“I mean, I wouldn’t blame you if you-”
“Not like that, Ruby. I mean, maybe but not on the 12th. I know they’re coming in hungry, but like Duran Duran said I’m hungry like the wolf. Kyle Williams is dying to prove he’s better than the big guys. CruZe probably wants to prove to whoever is paying for those fancy legs that it’s the right investment. Kane… I don’t know, other than he wants to win and when you’re really fucking good that can be enough because you know what? I’m in the same boat. I ain’t trying to win for my family, my friends, to get over a Napoleon complex, for a shadowy figure with a ton of cash and unknown intentions… I’m not even trying to win for the fans.”
“Careful girl.”
“No, listen, I love the fans, I love the support from them and I hope to be someone they can always look at and be like ‘yeah, that’s the girl we wanna see win the big one.’ But when I’m in the ring I’m not fighting for them. I’m fighting for me. Because I love it. Because I want it. Because I need it. Because being able to stand in that ring and not just say I’m the best but prove it? That’s what I live for, sis.”
“Well, even if you win this match you wouldn’t have the top title-”
“Says who?”
A moment of silence, Ruby seemingly confused while Amelia looks over at her patiently.
“Well… Aiden Reynolds has the Wrestleverse championship…”
“And who says that’s the top belt? Belts don’t make champions, Ruby. Champions make belts. Again, not taking a dig at Aiden but as of this minute that belt is the top belt by default. If I leave Taco Bell with that Eternal championship around my waist? I'll make it the top belt. With my sweat and blood, with my drive and passion, by fighting anyone and everyone who comes for it and making sure every single person in the locker room goes ‘I want to be the one who finally beats her’ and making sure every single person watching goes ‘I wanna watch her defend that belt forever.’ Champs make belts, and I’m gonna make the Eternal championship matter more than anything else in pro wrestling today.”
“Wow.”
“You asked.”
“Alright well thank you for coming on the show today Amelia. Fans, you can find her on Instragram, TikTok-”
“Don’t forget the OnlyFans!”
“And OnlyFans! Best of luck on the 12th Wildheart, we’ll all be watching and I’ll be rooting for you.”
“Thanks Ruby!”
We fade out as Ruby and Amelia shake hands before Amelia takes her headphones off, rising from her chair to leave the studio with a smile on her face.
